Dinner with Friends

Earlier this week I noticed on facebook that my friend Leia and her husband Jason were going to be in Portland this past weekend. Leia's parents Keith and Carol were going to be in Portland too since they were all attending a family wedding.  In hopes to maybe get a short visit with them in I messaged her.  We were able to make plans to have dinner on Saturday evening at Spaghetti Factory.
The gang enjoying dinner!  It was so fun to see friends from CA.
Isaiah really liked meeting everyone.  He had fun giving high fives and fist bumps!

Isaiah liked Keith and let him hold him a couple of different times!

Only One Left

We have one final bottle of Korean formula for Isaiah. It feels kind of sad that yet another Korean memory for Isaiah has just about run out. However, he has transitioned great to whole milk and honestly I don't think will miss the formula as long as I still keep the bottles coming! Our boy loves relaxing with his bottle and we enjoy snuggling him.

How Isaiah Rolls

We had noticed that Isaiah has certain things he does while in his carseat to get and stay comfy!
Both arms up behind his head...
... and feet crossed.

We are so grateful that he is such a good car rider!

McMinnville Park

On Saturday Travis had to work on homework most of the day. He had a lot to catch up on and was able to now that he is feeling better again after the appendix removal ordeal. Isaiah and I went to McMinnville to see the Willis family. We had lunch at Sandwich Express, went to Walmart, Isaiah took a nap, and then we went to the park.

Neither boy was too sure this was where they wanted to play.
Isaiah was a little concerned to be in this weird car.
Even though you can't tell by his face... he loved the swings!
Both boys loved the swings.
My adorable nephew!

It was a very hot day for the park...so we left very sweaty. We had a fun day (but we missed Daddy).

Family Trip to Costco

Earlier this week Nonna, Elise, Campbell, Isaiah, and I meet up at Costco. We got some frozen yogurt (hence the bib still on Campbell) and did our shopping. Part of our shopping trip also included MUSIC! Campbell loves pressing the number buttons and listening to all the different music options. Isaiah enjoyed watching Campbell be SO EXCITED!
Enjoying being at Costco together.
Campbell loves numbers and music.
Very focused on the task at hand!

New Toy

We got to have lunch with Emily and Brad last week at Red Robin. They brought Isaiah a new toy, which he loves! He has been playing with it all week. It is another Scout product that helps him learn his letters. He can take each of the letter pieces and put them into the dog house base. The toy sings a super cute song to him... every letter has a sound and c says ...

Thanks Emily and Brad for this very awesome toy!

Isaiah is Learning to Feed Himself

When we took Isaiah to the doctor for his 18 month check-up we had to fill out a developmental form for him. He didn't pass in two of the areas and only barely passed in the other three areas. Our doctor (who we won't be going to again) was worried that he was developmentally behind. We were totally shocked since he had only been home for 1 month!

Well, now that he has been home for 2 months we just started letting him practice feeding himself with silverware (which was one of the things on the developmental form that we had to check no he hadn't mastered yet). I don't know why a baby who was mostly on all formula at 17 months when he came home should be expected to switch to eating solid foods and feeding himself (with silverware) these solid foods or he is considered developmentally behind...crazy doctor!
We are so proud of you Isaiah... you did awesome with your first attempt at feeding yourself. Totally still trying to figure out how the spoon works, but he was totally successful in getting some of the pudding into his mouth.
Yummy, he liked pudding and feeding himself.

We let him feed himself applesauce and rice today also. In my opinion he is doing awesome, but I maybe be biased since I am his Mommy and adore him!

Our 4th of July Happenings

Well, since Travis had surgery on Saturday, the 4th of July (Sunday) happenings were pretty limited. My grandma had sent Isaiah an outfit... so I wanted to make sure to get a couple of pictures of him wearing it even though we just stayed home.
Doing his Korean squat.
Isaiah hasn't been super smiley the last couple of days with all the stress in our household, but we did get a cute picture.
Playing with Nonna.
Resting with Daddy.

4th of July Snack

My mom found a great 4th of July recipe a few years ago. The recipe is for making 4th of July sparklers. We have made them each year and love them!

Mom is melting the chocolate and this year we used dark chocolate...which is super yummy!
Putting the chocolate on the pretzel rods was a little messy.
A few finished products!
Mom was the official chocolate spreader and I was the official sprinkler.
Mom and I having fun cooking in her kitchen.
Chilling the finished product in the refrigerator.
What is a cooking experience without being silly while eating your finished product?
Isaiah just got to enjoy the 4th of July treat and he loves them too!
Isaiah thinks this is a great afternoon snack.
He very carefully ate his sparkler for awhile...
He enjoyed his snack so much that he did get a little messy!
Check out those sweet little hands getting dirty as he feeds himself his yummy sparkler.
Don't worry I also fed him some strawberries for his afternoon snack which he loved too.

Expensive Hotel NOT in Our Plans

Travis woke up Thursday Night (really early Friday, 3:30 AM) with bad stomach pains. He didn't wake me up because he thought he just had bad gas... but it didn't end up going away and 8:30 AM when he told he didn't feel well I didn't think it was that serious. Well, by 9:30 AM we were loading into the car (no shower for me) to go to Tualatin Kaiser to have some lab work done.

At Kaiser our good friends the Macy's were there too. Nate was having blood work done too, so he helped Travis pass some time. Amy and Derric were upstairs waiting for D's appointment and got to help entertain Isaiah for a few minutes. The lab work found that his white blood cell count was almost double what it should be normally. The doctor was pretty sure he need to have his appendix removed. She sent us to Sunnyside Kaiser -ER!

It was about 1 PM by the time he got checked into his expensive hotel. They told him there were two surgeries ahead of him... a 2 hour and a 1 hour and then he should be next. They estimated surgery around 5 or 6 pm.

Well, anyone who knows me very well knows that I HATE doctors and hospitals. So yes, I was freaking out! My parents drove up to Sunnyside to help with Isaiah and let me figure out what I needed to do. By about 3 PM I couldn't handle much more... with Travis' permission I left to get lunch, go home and shower, and get things that Isaiah would need to spend the night at Nonna and Pop's house. When I left I also knew that Travis' parents were on there way to the hospital and would be there in a couple of hours.

Before I got home Travis called me and told me that they had moved him from the ER into a room (with a TV) so he could wait for surgery. He gave me his direct phone number, which I used to call him a couple of times on Friday (and Saturday for that matter).

By 7 PM I was back up at the hospital (Travis' parents and sister and brother-in-law had been there for a couple of hours) but he had still not gone in for surgery! I hung out with him for a couple of hours... by this point his attitude and morale were going down (but rightly so) and luckily his pain was staying about the same. By 9 PM the surgeon came in and said it would still be another 2 and 1/2 to 3 hour wait for his surgery. NO WAY! The wait was getting ridiculous!

Again, Travis and I decided it was best for me to leave the hospital and get some rest since I would need to be taking care of Isaiah and him tomorrow. He also didn't want me driving home at 2 or 3 AM in the morning. Travis' parents were going to stay and offered to call me when he was out of surgery.

He FINALLY went into surgery around 11:30. Travis' parents called me around 1:20 AM and let me know that he was out of surgery and it went well. I don't remember much of the phone call as I surprisingly was able to sleep that night.

I woke up at 6:15 AM on Saturday morning and called the hospital to find out how Travis was doing, and he was awake so they let me talk to him. He was doing pretty well, all things considered. We decided I would get ready and come see him. I got Isaiah up and fed him a bottle before I left so I was at the hospital by 8 AM.

By about 10 AM we knew Travis was going to be discharged and get to come home. However, nothing at Kaiser goes fast... so it wasn't until 1 PM that we finally were loaded into the car and headed home.

Travis was home by Saturday at 2 PM with a Burgerville Chocolate Milkshake as his first meal. He said it was delicious! He is also on some really strong pain medicine which made (and still makes him) go in and out of sleeping a lot.

My parents brought Isaiah home shortly after we got home. He was having a rough time... I think this was too much for the little guy to hand after only being home for two months. He was really wanting his Mommy and Daddy and to be held. Poor Daddy can't hold his boy for at least 2 weeks and possibly 4 weeks! We pray that recovery goes quickly.

Here are just a couple of photos from Travis' expensive hotel stay this past weekend...
Happy Red, White, and Blue!
Travis and I do a peace sign and say YO a lot to each other. When I got there on Saturday morning he greeted me this way. As crazy as this is... I knew he was doing well!
With the expensive hotel stay you get a complementary pair of hospital socks. Travis thought that was very nice! He didn't end up bringing them home as he was over them by Saturday afternoon.
They also gave him a complimentary breathing device. This is supposed to be used regularly so that surgery patients don't get pneumonia.

Travis seems to be doing pretty well. He was bummed this messed up our 4th of July weekend, but grateful it didn't happen in Korea. We were a little sad Isaiah didn't get to experience fireworks, but we should still have a couple more opportunities this summer.

Introduction to Blocks

While we were waiting for Isaiah to come home we bought toys to help make the wait seem more bearable.

At the beginning of this past school year I got a gift card to MudPuddles (a local specialty toy store) where I found a set of Beka blocks. I have always loved these blocks (most Kindergarten classroom -at least around here have them) so we decide to order another BIGGER set from the Beka website!

We have been looking forward to introducing these blocks to Isaiah. However, once Isaiah came home he was really into throwing the cups (and other toys) so we waited to introduce the blocks. This past week I brought out the blocks and he did great. He didn't throw any of them and I really think he liked exploring them!

I (mom) built the structure. Isaiah enjoyed getting blocks out of the tub for my creation.
Checking out what each of the blocks could do.
Driving a car on the block road that I made for him.
Crashing down the structure!
Our little boy loves to study and analyze.
