Sunday at the Zoo

On Sunday afternoon we headed up to the Portland Zoo.  We had a lot of fun.  Travis and I got to see lots of animals and we tried to show Isaiah lots of animals too, but we aren't sure how much he saw or took in during his first visit to the zoo.  I guess that just means we get to take many more trips!
We started our zoo tour by going through the Great Northwest section first.  Isaiah and Mommy standing next to bears!
Isaiah enjoyed watching the fish swim around.

Next, we went to the petting zoo farm.  Isaiah and Daddy siting together on a tractor seat!
Mommy and Isaiah looking over the fence at a farm animal.
Looking at the goats.  I told Isaiah that this was Pops' favorite animal.
Isaiah is really into figuring out this work.  While standing at the fence looking at the goats he realized there was a bolt to discover!
Mommy showing Isaiah how to say hello to a goat.
Isaiah's turn to pet the goat.  I think he thought they were pretty cool!
Then, it was time for lunch (and some time in the shade).
I have always loved polar bears so even though they weren't looking at us we took a picture.  I was glad both polar bears were out and moving around.  It was so fun to watch them.  These bears are huge!
Elephants were another favorite animal of mine since I was little.  I was really looking forward to seeing the new (probably at least a year old, now) baby elephant, but it was not out.  In fact, the elephant exhibit was kind of disappointing.  There were huge signs asking people to help build the elephants a bigger space...hard to feel motivated when you only get to see ONE elephant, who therefore had TONS of space-silly zoo!
We saw a zookeeper come out and throw hay down in the elephant exhibit so we thought maybe if we hung out for a little bit we would get to see more than the one elephant.  We took a family photo and had a drink break, but no more elephants came out.
Mommy and Isaiah having fun by the elephant exhibit.
Daddy and Isaiah by the elephant exhibit.  Isaiah was glad we stuck around to see if more elephants would come out, but not because he cared if we saw more elephants, he just liked being able to run around.
For my brother-in-law Dan, this is a Hippo... I do know the difference between a Hippo and a Rhino!  Sorry the Rhino wasn't cooperating so we couldn't get a good photo.
There was a cool rock cave in the Africa exhibit where we took this picture, but Isaiah wasn't too sure it was a good spot!  He also had a dirty diaper, which could have been why he didn't think it was a good spot.  I ended up changing his diaper in the stroller!  It makes me laugh that in Korea I REALLY wanted changing tables in the bathrooms, but they were hardly available and now I am so comfortable that I just use my stroller or whatever is close by to make it more convenient.
My nephew went to the zoo a couple weeks ago and came home telling me he saw a zebra.  My sister and Campbell read our blog so we took this picture so he can see the zebra again, for free!
Giraffes were another favorite animal of mine.  Yes, I loved the zoo as a kid and I still love the zoo as an adult!  We had a great time at the zoo.  It was a fairly warm day, but we still got to see quite a few animals.

This is Elise. Campbell says thanks for the Zebra picture...but he called it a horse. We went back and forth about 10 times. I would say zebra, he would say horse. Oh well! He used to call all horses cows so maybe this is improvement. He did immediately recognize the giraffe picture though without me telling him. :)

Good choice on petting the goat Isaiah! Maybe some day Pops will have a goat you can pet... or maybe... your Mom and Dad will let you get a goat for a pet!
