Sharing our Story at Church

Last Sunday, July 15th we had the opportunity to share our adoption happenings at church!

When we got our good news earlier in the week that a birth mom had picked us we got in touch with Pastor Dave and Tami and told him how God had answered our prayers.  We also shared our news with our Youth Pastor Darel and Rachel.

While Travis was helping Darel's family move on Saturday; Darel asked if we would share how God worked in our lives during the past week (Pastor Dave was gone on vacation and Darel was preaching).  Travis said yes for us, which I would have said yes too, but it makes me so nervous to do these kinds of things!

Darel invited our family up front and interviewed us- it probably only lasted about 5 minutes, but it was good to share.  Darel gave us an outline of questions right before the service that he said he might ask us... so no heavy preparing went into this sharing, just our honest/genuine responses.

1) Tell us a little about your family, how long have you been at FLC, Travis' new job.

Travis answered this question and here is a summary of his answer...We have been going to FLC for over two years...we started going right before we got our travel call to go to Korea to pick up Isaiah.  Travis started a new job this past week at A-dec (another blessing from the Lord).

2) Can you share with us some of the journey you guys have been on as you have been growing your family?  The trials and victories.

I answered this question and here is my summary... I knew I wanted to adopt in Jr./High School so before Travis and I got married we talked about adopting.  Two years after getting married we started the process, and in May 2010 we brought Isaiah home.  He has been a wonderful blessing to our family!  In early 2011 we decided to expand our family, but had two miscarriages and then I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes so we decided God must have other plans for us.  In early 2012 we began the adoption process again.

3) At the end of the service last week Pastor Dave gave the opportunity to those who wanted to respond to come to the altar, and you guys came down.  What were you coming down for?

Travis answered this question and here is a summary of his answer...we didn't come down, but we were all feeling desperate that God would bless us with another child.

4) Tell us what God did this past week?

I answered this question and here is my summary... I got a call on Monday morning that a birth mom picked us and the baby is due in early September!

When we were done- Travis said I did a good job!  I'm glad he thought so... sharing in front of big groups of people is so not my favorite!  I am glad God gave me the opportunity to share about his faithfulness!

Our main point of sharing was that God was (and is) faithful and answered our desperate cry for news about our adoption and expanding our family! Darel made sure to point out that we are just one family who was desperate, but that he knows there are more blessings from the week that they would love to hear!

After the service a lady sitting behind me handed me a small slip of paper and asked me to pray for a lady she knows named Jenny, who doesn't know the Lord. She told me that Jenny had lost 2 babies as well, and recently got news that she lost custody of her step-son (also named Travis).  She was so glad she sat behind me and knew the Lord would work through my prayers.  Well, I have been faithfully praying for this lady, but I may never know anything more about her.  I do hope she comes to find the Lord!  I pray the Lord provides healing for her over her losses and opens up new doors and answers her desperate heart and longing to be a mother!

After church we had lunch, went to REI...we all got something new!  Travis got new Keen sandals, Isaiah got a backpack (or Isaiah purse...he loves Mommy's purse, Nonna's purse and has even called Trav's bag Daddy's purse), and I got a new pack to use as a purse!  Then Isaiah took a nap and we finished our weekend off by having Darel, Rachel, Claire, and Rachel's mom, Diana and Rachel's sister, Holly over for dinner...so fun!

Isaiah and Claire had fun together- they watched SHAPES!
